Europa League review – Thurs 14th July

Fulham beat Crusaders 3-1 in the first leg of their Europa League second qualifying round tie.

Martin Jol's side overcame a second-half scare at Seaview to take a stranglehold on the tie ahead of the return at Craven Cottage on 21st July.Fulham took the lead after 39 minutes when impressive youngster Matthew Briggs fired home left-footed from 25 yards. The Cottagers dominated against the Northern Ireland outfit but were rocked after 54 minutes when Tim Adamson levelled against the run of play with a 12-yard shot. That gave the hosts renewed heart and they pressed forward in the hope of causing a major upset. But Martin Jol's men sealed victory with two goals in the space of three minutes late on.First Bobby Zamora headed in Damien Duff's corner from 12 yards with 16 minutes on the clock. Then Danny Murphy scored from the penalty spot following a handball by Paul Leeman. The Barclays Premier League side comfortably saw out the match to put themselves within touching distance of the third qualifying round.
