King has been troubled by chronic knee problems throughout his career and he had an arthroscopy on Monday night.Spurs said in a statement: "Ledley King underwent a successful arthroscopy on his left knee last night."The defender is expected to rest for up to 10 days before progressing to full activity within a further 10 days."The surgery rules the defender out of the club's pre-season tour to South Africa, which begins on Wednesday.King spent a large part of last season on the sidelines thanks to a groin injury, which restricted him to just six Barclays Premier League appearances. The London club are hopeful that the 30-year-old will be fit in time for the new season, which begins on 13th August at home to Everton.King will be hoping to play a much bigger role this season although William Gallas and Michael Dawson formed a strong partnership in his absence last year.King will be hoping to persuade manager Harry Redknapp to extend his current deal, which is due to expire next summer, having seen injury-plagued defender Jonathan Woodgate released last week.Meanwhile, Tottenham have completed the signing of former Barcelona youngster Cristian Ceballos.Ceballos shot to fame four years ago when he was filmed juggling a ball with then Barca star Ronaldinho, but he did not progress as well as the Catalonian club had liked and they released him from his contract last season. The 18-year-old trained with Chelsea in March and visited Spurs' training ground towards the end of last season for a trial and his performances at Chigwell were good enough to lead the Spurs hierarchy to offer the teenager a contract.Ceballos, who can play as an attacking midfielder or forward, will now go in to the club's development squad.Spurs' technical co-ordinator Tim Sherwood said: "Cristian trained hard and showed some real quality when he originally spent time here towards the end of last season and was even involved in some of the first-team training."There was other interest in him too. He needs to be patient and if he can fulfil his potential we believe he can play at the top level."
