Larsson promises goals

Sebastian Larsson is confident that Steve Bruce's Birmingham City old boys will bring goals to Sunderland.

The Black Cats manager has returned to his former club this summer to snap up the Swedish winger, who he signed for City from Arsenal, and last season's top scorer Craig Gardner as he attempts to address a lack of firepower from the middle of the park.Larsson said: "I would like to think that I can create a few goals for the team and also score a few myself. Hopefully Craig can continue scoring goals like he did last year and we will get a few more from midfield this year."Larsson, a Bosman free signing, could be a key player next season as Bruce looks for genuine width, and his delivery from set-pieces could also proved hugely valuable. With Ghana international Gyan having been joined by target men Connor Wickham and Ji Dong-won, he is relishing the task of creating the supply line they need.
"I like to cross the ball and get it into the box, and you want people to get on the end of them, so to have players like that is brilliant for me."The 26-year-old said: "A player like Gyan, who is a fantastic player, that's what you want as a winger. The move to the Stadium of Light marks a new chapter in Larsson's career, which took him from Highbury to St Andrews, where his five-year stay ended with a Carling Cup winners' medal, but also the heartache of relegation to the Championship. However, he felt the time had come to move on regardless. He said: "I enjoyed my time at Birmingham, but I was also ready for a new challenge. I felt like my time there was up and I wanted a new fresh challenge. It's an exciting time now at Sunderland."
