Reina knows Liverpool must improve

Goalkeeper Pepe Reina says it is not in Liverpool's "identity" to concede as many as goals as they have in pre-season.

The Reds have shipped 15 goals in five matches, conceding three times in each encounter against somewhat weaker opposition.Hull City, Galatasaray and Valerenga are just some of the teams who have troubled Kenny Dalglish's men this summer. The Scot has, at times, been forced to field weakened sides and certain new signings are still finding their feet, but Reina is not using that as an excuse."We have a lot of work ahead of us," the Spaniard said. "We cannot afford to concede so many goals. To let in three is not our identity."We have some new signings and we are still working them into our system."Daniel Agger helped avoid an embarrassing defeat in Norway on Monday, chipping in with two goals in a worrying 3-3 draw in a game which saw Liverpool fall two behind early on.The Danish defender with an eye for goal took little comfort from his brace, though, and echoed Reina's call for a shape up in defence."The amount of goals we have conceded is not good enough," Agger said. "We need to show we can keep a clean sheet and we have got to defend better."If you are a footballer, you have to be a perfectionist. We are all the same as defenders. So far we just have to admit that (the way we have played) has not been good enough. There is definitely something to work on,"Liverpool open up their Barclays Premier League campaign at home to Sunderland on 13th August and then face a tough trip to Arsenal a week later.
