Monk may miss big kick-off

Swansea City captain Garry Monk could miss the start of the new Barclays Premier League season.

Monk has not featured for Swansea during pre-season because of a foot injury he picked up at the back end of their promotion campaign. And Rodgers is becoming resigned to being without the defender for the big kick-off next month."The likelihood is he may not be fully fit for the beginning of the season," said Rodgers."It goes back to the end of the season. He'd done remarkably well to play in the play-off final."He had injections and all sorts of jabs to get him through and in the off season he's just rested it."He can't do much impact work on the field. He's doing the work with the medical team and they're looking after him very well."
