The Denmark international, who has been linked with a move to West Ham United, asked for contract negotiations with the Britannia Stadium hierarchy earlier in June.
But in the second half of last season Sorensen was restricted to playing in the FA Cup for runners-up Stoke and appeared just once in the Barclays Premier League after the end of October
Asmir Begovic was manager Tony Pulis' first choice and Sorensen is concerned that he may again have to settle for a place on the bench in the next campaign.
The 35-year-old said: "I find it of the utmost importance to get more minutes of playing time next season."
Manager Tony Pulis has already stated that Sorensen still has big part to play and would like to tie the keeper down to a fresh deal.
He said: "We are in a situation where Thomas has come to us about renewing his contract; and that is brilliant for us.
"Thomas is a vital member of the squad. We will sit down and talk to him and his agent and hopefully get something sorted out."
